image

Clay is a self-watering can ceramics.
The microporous structure of the fired ceramic at a relatively low temperature allows the water to infiltrate through the wall of the object. The water´s path ends at the roots of the plant which absorbs its required nutrients. The chromatic relationship with the pot on which the watering can rests allows it to integrate into space and to blend itself to the environment.

By adding fine sawdust to the clay mixture, the form is able to kill harmful bacteria. The sawdust burns during the firing process so the shell is porous and water can filter quickly. The drops which collect on the bottom seep through the holes to the outside. By additionally adding colloidal silver, the filter kills bacteria and increases the shelf life of the filtered water.
