Much research has been carried out regarding the historical methods of storing water. By examining the material components and design differences of every earthenware remnant, researchers learned more about ancient civilizations regarding their cultural, economic, production and technological values.

Watered With Love
This innovative watering can from ceramicists Jo-Anne and Gerald Warren transforms plant watering from a single gush of water into a gentle spring rain. Instead of a spout, it spreads the water pressure out like a shower head through a number of small holes in its base. Fill the vessel by dipping it into water, keeping the water inside by simply placing your thumb over the top opening. You’ll create a vacuum that holds its contents in place until you’re holding it over your thirsty flowerbed. Release your thumb and watch the water sprinkle onto your plants.

For Antonio Aricò, a water carafe includes the essentials of a rounded and comfortable shape with a handle, and is used to offer a nice, fresh glass of water to guests and friends.
Playing on the idea and shape of purity and simplicity, Antonio wanted to create again an emotional object: organic, minimal but strong and full of character. Like a giant ice cube, the body of the carafe is iconic and straightforward.

Dolomyth aims to capture the complex relief of the Dolomites, which is rich in forms and the result of a successful and harmonious combination of structural shapes and climatic conditions. This unique and dynamic landscape is in constant geomorphological evolution, starting from the Miocene period, when rock layers began to emerge from the sea in which they had sedimented.

In Venice, paline and bricole (group of three paline) are timber poles, planted in the Laguna seabed. The bricole’s external surface is left intentionally intact, in order for the markings left by tides and molluscs to act as reminders of the Venetian sojourn of this characteristic recovered timber. All parts sawn from bricola poles undergo accurate and painstaking washing, cleaning, drying and disinfection procedures and they are finally protected by a thin layer of beeswax.

Manantial is an invitation to discover and get to know natural processes. It proposes the reproduction of an ecosystem by means of soil, stones and plants able to give back to water its natural balance. It is not an easy task, it takes time and dedication, maybe a whole life.
“Like water drops which fall in the interior of a cave purified and enriched by the life cycle of water”
Designed by Martín Azúa and made with the collaboration of the ceramist Marc Vidal.

Japanese designer Tokujin Yoshioka has developed ‘waterfall’, the world’s largest optical glass table. In form it is a 4.5 meter giant optical glass block which reminds one of water running down the surface of a sheer cliff. The piece was originally developed for a private gallery located in the heart of Tokyo in 2006, and drew from his earlier 2002 project, ‘water block’.

Layers of time are fossilized within the essence of amber… korean design Jaeuk Jung draws on the qualities of this natural resin as a solution in which to reflect and preserve the final moments of a decaying object. His ‘amber chair’ ‘fossilizes’ michael thonet’s classic ‘chair no. 14’, enclosing the antique piece of furniture and turning it into a contemporary design object. Thus a new chair is presented without removing the past completely, but conserving it.

Inspired by how crushing a ball of paper gives it flexibility, structure, porosity and character, a large sheet of paper is creased in orderly grids into a hemisphere with each grid facing outwards to optimise surface area for diffusing and evaporating water.

The Liquid Glacial design embeds surface complexity and refraction within a powerful fluid dynamic. The elementary geometry of the flat table top appears transformed from static to fluid by the subtle waves and ripples evident below the surface, while the table’s legs seem to pour from the horizontal in an intense vortex of water frozen in time.

By adding fine sawdust to the clay mixture, the form is able to kill harmful bacteria. The sawdust burns during the firing process so the shell is porous and water can filter quickly. The drops which collect on the bottom seep through the holes to the outside. By additionally adding colloidal silver, the filter kills bacteria and increases the shelf life of the filtered water.

«This smooth pebble shaped carafe has on its inside a crystal formation reminiscent of those found inside geodes. When pouring, the water contained in the carafe slowly streams through the crystal formation in the same way it would coming out of a cave. The crystals give the water a nature inspired dynamic as it also purifies it on its way to the glass. »

Lunar craters are almost two billion years old. Today we can observe them unchanged since their formation. These craters show the physical impact over an undisturbed terrain by revealing the presence of concave depressions, left by the collision of an object against the silent lunar surface.

As water drips down from the wet umbrella, it flows down through a perforation into the base feeding the soil and allowing the grass to grow. The smaller container includes a fast growing grass seed.
